Basic characteristics

Electronic interlocking ESB-1 (hereinafter signal box) is according to the TNŽ Standard 342620 a station interlocking block of the 3rd category deve-loped for securing and control of train routes in railway stations and on siding rail yards.

Operation of system corresponds with basic technical require-ments to JOP (universal control post).

Signal box is configured into 4 technological levels:

  • level of the control computers,
  • level of technological computers working in mode 2 out of 2,
  • level of relay circuits,
  • level of outer equipment,

All computer levels are 100% backed-up and run in so called hot stand-by. The first two levels create the electronic part, the third and fourth one represent the performance part. Signal box can cooperate by means of relay interface with outer elements commonly used in interlocking technology, such as: signals, point machines, track circuits, axle counters, auxiliary commanding posts. Signal box is installed into signal box switching centre except of control computer which is situated in operator office. The inner part of the signal box is installed in locked containers.

Technical specifications

ESB-1 satisfies the criteria for the level of safety integrity SIL 4 according to CENELEC
The system meets the basic technical require-ments to electromagnetic compatibility according to the STN EN 50121-4.

Power supply:

  • Nominal voltage 3/N 400/230V ±10%
  • frequency 50 Hz, ± 5%
  • consumption from 3 to 10 kW according to the station size

Description of function individual devices

System allows the following functions:

  • entering of commands and displaying of station block system state in railyard on the screen of control computer according to JOP,
  • separate throwing-over of the points,
  • control of electromagnetic locks,
  • control of auxiliary commanding post,
  • control of power supply stand,
  • set-up and cancellation of train routes,
  • set-up and cancellation of shunting routes,
  • control and monitoring of level crossing installations both in station area and on the open line,
  • coupling to the line block system in adjacent sections,
  • using of timely limited subsidiary signal on the main signals,
  • emergency release of section lockings,
  • emergency throwing-over of the points,
  • accomplishing of emergency locking of points, derailers, electromagnetic locks, auxiliary command posts and line consents,
  • emergency control of level crossings,
  • option of interlocking system´s remote control from higher (superior) system,
  • cooperation with station diagnostics DISTA
